Hi and Welcome to....About the Practioner!!
My name is Amanda L. Benko, LMT and I will be your host!!
I am an LMT, which stands for Licensed Massage Therapist. I am a transplant of sorts to the Harrisburg/Middletown Area as I was born and grew up in the Skook, nickname for Schuylkill County, and is affectionately known to some as the Coal Region.
When I first started out in the big world of learning I never imagined I would end up in the Burg. Boy am I glad I did! This place Rocks! If it had a sandy beach I'd think I'd have died and gone to heaven!
But, I digress, let's get to the stuff you really want to know.
I received my training for Massage Therapy at Keystone Technical Institute in Harrisburg, PA awarding me my Associate Degree in Specialized Business, recognizing my qualifications as a Professional Massage Therapy Specialist in 2007; after which, I gained my National Certification through taking one of the required board exams through NCBTMB, the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, and is now one of the exams that upon passing makes one eligible to apply for a PA State Massage License, the process of Licensure in PA started only a few short years ago so this is pretty exciting stuff as its been a long hard road and going through red tape to get our Massage Licensure Board established here in PA. For more information on our requirements and the standards and ethics us professional Massage Therapists hold ourselves up to check out, http://www.dos.state.pa.us/massage_therapy
Prior to this training, I received a Certification in SKin and Spa Consulting from Quixtar, formerly Amway and BeautiControl, an at-home spa company under the Tupperware Corporation, 2004-2005. I also hold an Associate Degree in Specialized Technology for Electronic Engineering Technology and a PACE Surface Mount Technology Certificate from Lincoln Technical Institute in Allentown, PA, 1999; also holding a Diploma with High Honors for Computer Networking Techology from McCan School of Business and Technology in Hazleton, PA, 2003.
I'm currently the Owner and Massage Therapist of Full Circle Spa & Bodyworks since 2005 and an Instructor at the McCann School of Business and Technology, Carlisle, PA Campus. As you can see, I'm high energy, with a self proclaimed obsession of learning, educating and helping others.
My practice philosophy I take from Yogi Bhajan, "You're more than the greatness you have, you are the greatness you give." I believe in that I am more than what I have, I am the gift of giving. Giving positive energy, kind words, a smile and a loving touch.
I do what I do for many reasons. Like my above statement of my self proclaimed obsession, I love to learn, I'll pick up almost anything and read it, absorb it and apply it. I want to know how things tick and love making them work again, work better sometimes. ;-) A lot of people on my journey have asked me, "Why or what made you go from Engineering and Computers to Massage Therapy?" Well, my answer, is simply this. Whether computers, electronics or the human body, its all troubleshooting. Massage Therapy just troubleshoots a biomechanical machine. Once you know how something is supposed to work. You follow a certain set of "If this then that scenarios" along with an honest Medical History Form from your client, coupled with an innate, or obsessive ability, (wink wink) and you are on your way to an excellent start of a wellness program of the clients specific needs within the Scope of Practice for Massage Therapists.
Other than being a Business Owner, Massage Therapist and an Instructor, I am a Mom to a beautiful young lady, i love to read as stated above but do read for fun when I can, I love the beach and being at the pool, singing and smiling...that's my favorite.
Thanks for reading along. I do hope you enjoyed and i do hope to see you relaxing, rejevenating and renewing soon!
